Second International Training Workshop on the Carbon Sequestration Estimate and Capacity Building of Coastal Blue Carbon Ecosystems in Maritime Silk Road Countries (CBC-MSR) 2026
The Second International Training Workshop on the Carbon Sequestration Estimate and Capacity Building of Coastal Blue Carbon Ecosystems in Maritime Silk Road Countries (CBC-MSR) 2026 offers an immersive training programme aimed at strengthening the capacity of students, researchers, practitioners and policymakers from Maritime Silk Road and other developing countries in the assessment and monitoring of coastal blue carbon ecosystems. The workshop will cover theoretical lectures (e.g., scientific background of coastal blue carbon, methods for monitoring carbon cycling and flux in coastal vegetation, sedimentation flux assessment, carbon sequestration potential, and how to report additional annual carbon storage to the UN), plus hands-on fieldwork/visits, group discussions and a final report. Participants will gain practical experience in field experiments, data collection, processing and modelling, and will engage with innovation in low-cost monitoring technologies. The ultimate aim is to support protection and restoration of coastal blue carbon ecosystems, establish standardized carbon accounting and trading systems, and contribute to global climate governance and sustainable development through technical and human-capacity development.
Prerequisites / Eligibility
Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
