Private Industry Task Team
Objectives
The private industry ECOP task team is a dynamic community dedicated to supporting early career ocean professionals in their growth and development within the ocean industry. The initiative is inclusive and open to ECOPs that are active in the marine private industry but also ECOPs from other sectors who are interested in the private sector’s involvement in ocean-related endeavors.
The task team has the following objectives:
- Networking: Facilitate connections and networking among members to foster collaborations, exchange ideas, and promote career growth within the ocean industry.
- Knowledge Sharing: Create platforms for members to share their work, experiences, and best practices, fostering a culture of learning and innovation within the industry and creating awareness of different career opportunities for ECOPs in private industry.
- Professional Development: Offer resources and support for professional development as well as establish connections between ECOPs and established industry players, so ECOPs may learn more about career opportunities, skills required and how to develop them best and overall promote career growth.
- Raise awareness: raise awareness internally about existing activities interesting to ECOPs (conferences, trainings etc.), as well as externally about the work of diverse private industry ECOPs, to encourage their inclusion in activities working towards improving our ocean’s health, e.g. under the UN Ocean Decade.
By pursuing these objectives, the Private Industry ECOP Task Team will effectively support the growth and development of its members while contributing to the broader goals of ocean conservation, sustainability, and innovation.
Activities
- Webinars: The main activity of the Private Industry ECOPs Task Team will be to provide webinars on different topics:

- Presentations highlighting work performed in different sectors.
- Provide a platform for ECOPs to network, discuss challenging topics and drive positive change, e.g. via online speed dating events.
- Share resources and upcoming opportunities for career development, including conferences that could be interesting for private industry ECOPs to attend, courses and training opportunities and recommendations etc.
