Introducing ECOP Liberia

The Liberia Node for Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) is an initiative that aims to empower and provide support to youthful individuals with a keen interest in pursuing careers in Marine science and conservation.  The Node will work closely with national stakeholders in formulating policies that will safeguard Liberia’s marine ecosystems. In addition, the fundamental aim of the ECOP Liberia node is to synchronize and contribute to the objectives outlined by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).

Goals and Objectives

The main objective of ECOP Liberia is to outline an effective and innovative program which includes the following components: Ocean Education, Awareness, Management, and Protection. Specifically, ECOP Liberia will raise public awareness of and appreciation for the Ocean and its significance for human wellbeing whist fostering a culture of Ocean stewardship.

ECOP Liberia plans to affiliate with various organizations, diplomatic missions, and relevant government agencies. Through these affiliations, the ECOP Node seeks to leverage diverse expertise, resources, and networks to drive impactful initiatives for sustainable coastal and marine conservation in Liberia.

ECOP Liberia vision and mission

The ECOP Liberia node seeks to inspire, educate, and empower a new generation of ocean professionals dedicated to safeguarding Liberia’s marine environment for future generations.

Together, we possess the capability to establish a long-standing influence on the health and welfare of our oceans. We are enthusiastic about your involvement and eagerly anticipate your active engagement and contribution to the ECOP Liberia node. Let us unite our efforts and endeavors toward a future wherein the ocean prospers, ecosystems flourish, and coastal communities thrive.

ECOP Liberia activities

ECOP Liberia aspires to play a role in fostering the advancement of diverse voices among Early Career Ocean Professionals by:

  1. Host a series of webinars and seminars addressing ocean conservation, inviting experts and educators.
  2. Develop a series of short educational videos explaining the importance of oceans and the threats they face.
  3. Collaborate with local schools to integrate ocean literacy into their curriculum.
  4. Conduct workshops in coastal communities to educate locals on sustainable fishing practices and marine conservation.
