Vision and mission
Pandora Expeditions was established with a clear mission: to provide marine researchers—both seasoned professionals and aspiring scientists—with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on field experience while actively contributing to the collection of essential data on the health and biodiversity of Australia’s remote northern coastline. It was Endorsed as a UN Decade Ocean Project under the Early Career Ocean Professionals Programme in early 2023.
This initiative serves not only as a platform for immersive learning but also as a vital contributor to the scientific understanding of an under-explored and ecologically significant region. By venturing into largely uncharted marine territories, the Pandora Expeditions team is at the forefront of discovery—mapping previously unsurveyed areas, identifying new species, and uncovering the hidden ecological stories of the Northern Territory. Their work helps bring to light the rich natural secrets this remote and wild coastline has long held, offering insights that can support conservation, policy, and sustainable management efforts for generations to come.
How to get involved
Pandora Expeditions are currently offering Conservation and Environmental Research internships to 18+ ECOPs, currently studying a Marine Biology degree (or related) or recently graduated, comfortable on and in the water and prepared to work in remote locations with limited resources (with limited internet and mobile network connection). Experiences may vary depending on the research conducted, and may include snorkelling, scuba diving, remote underwater surveying and remote camping. 1 month minimum.
