Ocean Census Timor-Leste Expedition – Call for Expressions of Interest
The Ocean Census Timor-Leste Expedition is seeking expressions of interest from marine taxonomists with experience working with biological samples and knowledge of deep-sea fauna to participate in a collaborative expedition in the waters surrounding Timor-Leste. The expedition will investigate marine biodiversity at depths of approximately 500–2,000 metres using ROVs and potentially submersibles, alongside shallow-water sampling by scuba diving. Participants may contribute expertise in benthic taxa including corals, sponges, polychaetes and ascidians, or participate as generalists. Ocean Census will provide support for flights, transfers, accommodation, and medical assessments and sea survival training where required. Two expedition legs are available in October–November and December 2026, with participants required to attend the full duration of their selected leg. Expressions of interest must be submitted by 16 August 2026. The expedition is focused on Ocean Census objectives rather than supporting participants’ own independent research.
