Underwater noise pollution is an escalating issue that poses significant threats to marine life and ecosystems. The recent OCEANOISE2023 conference highlighted the urgent need for coordinated action. Our panel discussion aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and policymaking to foster effective solutions for mitigating underwater noise pollution.
For this online event, esteemed panellists include:
- Christine Erbe, Curtin University, Australia
- Tom Akamatsu, Waseda University, Japan
- Ana Širović, NTNU, Norway
- Peter Sigray, Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden
- Leila Hatch, NOAA, USA
- Michel André, Technical University of Catalonia, Spain as moderator
Experts from various fields will share their insights, discussing the latest scientific developments, legislative advancements, and global perspectives. This dialogue is a follow-up activity from our collaboration with the endorsed Ocean Decade Research Programme on the Maritime Acoustic Environment (OD MAE) during Ocean Decade Week in Barcelona, which provided a platform for highlighting the importance of underwater acoustics in the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. For more information about OD MAE, visit: https://oceandecade.org/actions/ocean-decade-research-programme-on-the-maritime-acoustic-environment-un-mae/
The event will begin with a welcome and introduction, followed by short opening pitches by our panellists designed to stimulate thought-provoking discussions and will be followed by the main panel discussion. The final segment will be an audience Q&A, with questions gathered during registration. Take your chance our questions to the panel then!
