📣 Call for hosts for the V.ECOP Days 2024 linked to the UN Ocean Decade Conference in Barcelona!

Are you an Early Career Ocean Professional looking to participate in the Ocean Decade Conference but unable to make it to Barcelona? You can still contribute online! In 2024, V.ECOP Day will return, in a hybrid format, linking the international in-person Conference with the global ECOP community. V.ECOP Days is looking for enthusiastic hosts for interactive, online sessions so that everyone can participate for free and from everywhere in the world.  🎖 The Oceanography Society (TOS) has recently streamlined the process for submitting nominations for the Jerlov Medal, as well as all TOS Honors.

  • Anyone can serve as a nominator for another individual. Potential candidates should feel encouraged to ask a potential nominator to advance a nomination. We also encourage self-nominations. Self-nominations should also include a nomination letter.
  • Nominators are not required to be TOS members.
  • One co-nominator is allowed.
  • A minimum of two, but no more than three supporting letters are required.

🌳 The SRI/SSD2024 Call for Contributions welcomes submissions from diverse groups of people working to accelerate sustainability transformations, including those from the research sector, government, business, and civil society.

The fourth Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress, in collaboration with Sustainability Science Days, will be held in Helsinki and Espoo, Finland from 10-14 June 2024. The Call for Contributions also invites proposals for SRI2024 Satellite Event in Africa.

The four Congress themes below are meant to spark ideas for contributions. Cross-cutting proposals are also welcome.

🙋 The Manta Trust is looking for young people (aged 13-18) who are motivated to use their creativity and communication skills to help spread positive messages about the ocean. Ocean Ambassadors will work with the Manta Trust to develop projects that promote ocean science and conservation, perhaps working with their school or in their local communities. Ocean Ambassadors will gain new skills and experiences that will help set you apart and enrich applications for future opportunities. 🚀 Check out Future Earth funding opportunities for travel through their Inclusivity and Diversity Participation initiative, for early career researchers, indigenous communities, women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQAI+ community who wish to participate in sustainability events and programs. ✍️ Take part in a short survey with the Ocean Literacy Research Community (OLRC) to share what you think about our changing ocean, its connection with climate, and especially, action! Participation involves completing a 10 minute survey, is voluntary, and open to any global citizen 18 years of age or older. Everyone who fills out this survey will be placed in a draw to win 1 of 3 swag prize packages!

🌏 Future Earth seeks to support inclusivity and diversity participation of underrepresented communities in low to middle income countries (LMICs). This includes, but is not limited to, early career researchers, indigenous communities, women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQAI+ community who wish to participate in sustainability events and programs. 🏝 The application process is now open for the Joint Fellowship on “Blue Economy in Tropical Coastal Marine Research” offered for 2024 by the Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre) and ZMT. Young scientists from NAM S&T Centre and NAM S&T-Industry Network member countries can apply for one of the maximum of five fellowships covering a three-month research stay at ZMT. The fellowship is funded by the NAM S&T Centre and ZMT. Only one scientist will be selected from any particular NAM S&T Centre country/network Member.

🔬 Delve Deeper, the Distance Learning Course in Marine Biology at Newcastle University, is a six-month online course, with practical experience delivered through the five day residential field course. The Course Fee is £680 and includes all tuition and lunches on the field course.  Registration is now open for 2024. This course is suitable as Continuing Professional Development for those in the Environmental Sector branching into marine issues. It provides an excellent taster for those considering pursing full time studies or a career in Marine Science, and we also welcome those who are simply passionate about the marine world and wish to know more. 🔎 Check out Blue Marine Foundation‘s new tool: the Blue Marine Berwickshire Ocean Observatory, an online resource combining high-resolution underwater footage with free, downloadable learning materials, all related to the Berwickshire Marine Protected Area.
