2027 United Nations–Nippon Foundation Fellowship on Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea
The 2027 United Nations–Nippon Foundation Fellowship on Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (UNNF OALOS) is a fully funded, nine-month professional development programme for mid-level government officials and professionals from developing States working on ocean affairs and/or the law of the sea. The Fellowship combines a three-month training programme at UN Headquarters in New York with a six-month research placement at a participating academic host institution. Fellows receive advanced training on international legal frameworks, ocean governance, marine science and related disciplines, while developing professional skills and conducting individual research under academic supervision. The programme is designed to strengthen participants’ capacity to contribute to ocean policy and the implementation of UNCLOS, related instruments and SDG 14 in their home countries. The 2027 programme will run from 24 March to 17 December 2027, and applications close on 13 September 2026.
