Call for Ocean Practices Early Career Ocean Professional (ECOP) ambassadors

The Ocean Practices programme is seeking Early Career Ocean Professional (ECOP) ambassadors who are passionate and enthusiastic about global interoperability, regional capabilities and ocean best practices, and are willing to play an important role in advocating for best practices, promoting the communication for the needs of best practices, their development and implementation. Specifically, Ocean Practices is looking for at least one ECOP representative for each global region (i.e., French Africa, English Africa, Australasia, Asia, India, Europe, North America, South America), as regional practices can diverge, and thus have different requirements for key stakeholder involvement, consideration of resources and capabilities, and communication strategies.

Who are we?

The UN Ocean Decade endorsed OceanPractices programme is tightly linked to the Ocean Best Practices System (OBPS), a project of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), UNESCO. The OBPS is a global project which aims to connect regions and generations to support sustainable development and scientific exploration of the oceans. The OBPS is involved in coordinating high-level issues related to best practices by supporting the creation, publishing, discovery, and access (FAIR and CARE Principles) to ocean-related methods, best practices, and standards.

The OBPS ECOP Ambassador Programme will:

●  offer you opportunities and platforms to showcase your skills and abilities in ocean best practices on the OBPS website, newsletter, and workshops.

●  train you on communication and outreach strategies to support you in communication activities.

●  enable you to get involved and create momentum around current and new methods in ocean observing.

●  provide you with opportunities for networking and exposure through the OBPS Steering Group, network, conferences, workshops, and a mentor-mentee programme.

●  enable you to liaise with other ECOP Ambassadors and experts in diverse activities.

●  receive a 500$ grant to support training courses, workshops and conferences spread over the two year period.

The Ocean Practices ECOP Ambassador Programme is open to self-identified ECOPs (up to a maximum of 10 years post graduation at the time of application) who are able to engage in the Ocean Practices ECOP Ambassador Programme for a period of 1 – 2 years and who are willing to use their creativity, communication, artistic talents, technical and interpersonal skills to help promote OBPS activities and the marine science ocean observation community at large.
