Special Issue: The Science and Solutions for a Resilient Global Coastal Ocean
This special issue of Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Research (OLAR), a Science Partner Journal of AAAS, invites contributions documenting state-of-the-art integrated ocean observing and predicting systems implemented at GlobalCoast Pilot Sites, developed under the UN Ocean Decade’s CoastPredict Programme. With approximately 23% of the global population living within 100 km of coastlines, the special issue aims to support decision-makers and coastal communities through science-based tools for short-term risk management and long-term adaptation planning. Topics include advancing the scientific understanding of coastal hazards through interoperable, reproducible evidence; identifying critical knowledge, data, and implementation gaps; and describing co-designed, operational digital infrastructures and their institutional and community uptake. The special issue is supervised by Nadia Pinardi (University of Bologna / UN Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience), with guest editors from the Philippines, Italy, Mexico, the United States, Ghana, and Australia. Submissions should indicate in the cover letter that they are intended for this special issue.
